Nipple Surgery
Types of nipple surgeries available
Nipple surgery can cover a multitude of different plastic surgery procedures,
many of which patients are not even aware of. We understand that many
patients may be dissatisfied with certain aspects of their nipples, so we have
multiple cosmetic procedures available to assist with your concerns.
Nipple surgeries are available to address nipple size,
areola size, or inverted nipples.
Are you a candidate for nipple surgery?
Who is a candidate for nipple surgery in Montreal?
These surgical procedures are for anyone with concerns about the appearance of the nipples.
If you are unhappy with the size of the areola, the size (length) of the nipples, or if you have any variation (mild to severe) of inverted nipples and feel unhappy with the appearance of your nipple you may consider nipple surgery.
You should be in good overall physical health and not pregnant or breastfeeding. Your plastic surgeon will assess you to determine if you are a good candidate for nipple surgery.

What types of nipple surgeries are available?
Inverted Nipple Correction
Inverted nipples are caused by short or overly tight milk ducts. The procedure will correct this with a small incision to release them, allowing the nipples to project. The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, with a quick recovery. Some women may choose to have this surgery at the same time as other procedures, such as breast augmentation or as part of a mommy makeover.
Areola Reduction Surgery
This is a simple and minimally invasive surgery to reduce the size of the areola (circular area surrounding the nipple). It is performed under local anesthesia and will take about an hour. Scarring is minimal and this can be combined with other procedures such as breast augmentation as well.
Nipple Reduction Surgery
Long, drooping or enlarged nipples can be genetic or can occur from breastfeeding due to repetitive sucking by the baby. Large nipples can cause discomfort to a patient by being visible through clothing, and can be addressed with a simple surgery to reduce the length of the nipple. Surgery and recovery is quick, and performed under local anesthesia
Nipple surgery recovery
Recovery after nipple surgery is very minimal and most patients can return to work the following day. You will experience some minimal discomfort and swelling for a few days and intense physical activity and exercise should be avoided for 2 weeks.

Possible risks associated with nipple surgery
Like any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with nipple surgery. These can include bleeding, scarring, infection and pain.
Additional risks of nipple surgeries can be loss of nipple sensitivity or feeling (numbness), or hypersensitivity to the nipples. In some cases, patients may have difficulty breastfeeding after nipple surgery.
