Fat Grafting

Different types of fat transfer surgery in Montreal

What is fat grafting?

Fat grafting (also known as fat transfer) is a method of surgically removing fat from one part of the body and transferring it to another part of the body for a natural looking result. The process involves removing the fat using liposuction, purifying it and reinjecting the fat to desired areas to sculpt and contour the body.

Where can I have fat grafting?

Treatment areas for fat grafting | fat transfer

Fat grafting (fat transfer) can be used in combination with other plastic surgery procedures (such as a mommy makeover or facelift), is a longer lasting alternative to fillers, and can sculpt many parts of the body.

Common areas for fat grafting:

  • Facial fat transfer: this is an essential component to a facelift if the patient has loss volume to the face due to aging. Fat transfer will restore a  youthful fullness to the face. However, a facelift does not need to be performed for facial fat transfer. a patient may also choose facial fat transfer as an alternative to fillers for a more long-lasting option.
  • Breasts: Fat transfer to the breasts is an ideal option for patients who would like a boost to the cleavage or have lost some volume in the top of the breasts but do not want to have breast implants. There are limitations to breast size change, and is generally for patients who want a small augmentation.
  • Buttocks: Patients who are looking for a rounded, enhanced buttock area will benefit from fat transfer, or more commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

  • Hands: Fat grafting to the tops of the hands is a long-lasting option to rejuvenate the look of the hands that may have lost volume and smoothness due to aging, weight loss, or genetics.

Who is a good fat transfer candidate

Are you a candidate for fat grafting?

Your plastic surgeon will give you an honest assessment and let you know if you are a good candidate for fat transfer surgery, and how best to use the procedure to achieve what you are looking for and if that would include fat transfer (fat grafting) surgery or other non-surgical alternatives.

In general you should be in good overall health with no medical conditions that can impair healing, must be a nonsmoker or willing to quit smoking, and have realistic expectations.

Possible risks

Inform yourself of the possible risks of fat transfer (fat grafting)

Like any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with fat transfer surgery. These can include bleeding, scarring, infection, change in skin sensation and pain.

Fat transfer to the face will also have similar risks to dermal fillers.

Fat that was injected can be reabsorbed into the body, and can change with weight loss or gain.

What to expect for fat transfer recovery

It is our goal at Station L to ensure that your entire experience from the initial consultation to your recovery is as positive and comfortable as possible. Your plastic surgeon and surgical coordinator will go over your post-operative instructions and recovery with you as it is essential for your surgical results that you follow care instructions.

Most fat transfer surgeries are done in combination with other surgeries, so recovery will reflect those specific procedures.

Fat transfer to the face alone can take 1-2 weeks, with return to full activity after 2 weeks.

Part of our  process at Station L is making sure that you have all the information you need to make informed decisions and feel guided through the entire process. Our concept is for you to have a five star experience, and our goal is for you to have the best possible outcomes and least possible complications.

Our office is always available for questions via email or text message should more questions arise.

A great surgeon who listens. You quickly gain confidence in his frankness and expertise. The results obtained are beyond my expectations and I am definitely grateful. A crush for Dr. Arash, for Nashrine, for Marie-Ève and Noémie the nurses who accompanied my process and for the nice ladies at the reception.

Very good surgeon. I had a mommy makeover (abdominoplasty and breast lift with implant) by Dr. Arash and I am very satisfied. He's a magician. I can't stop staring at my chest.
