Different types of fat transfer surgery in Montreal
What is fat grafting?
Fat grafting (also known as fat transfer) is a method of surgically removing fat from one part of the body and transferring it to another part of the body for a natural looking result. The process involves removing the fat using liposuction, purifying it and reinjecting the fat to desired areas to sculpt and contour the body.
Where can I have fat grafting?
Treatment areas for fat grafting | fat transfer
Fat grafting (fat transfer) can be used in combination with other plastic surgery procedures (such as a mommy makeover or facelift), is a longer lasting alternative to fillers, and can sculpt many parts of the body.
Common areas for fat grafting:
- Facial fat transfer: this is an essential component to a facelift if the patient has loss volume to the face due to aging. Fat transfer will restore a youthful fullness to the face. However, a facelift does not need to be performed for facial fat transfer. a patient may also choose facial fat transfer as an alternative to fillers for a more long-lasting option.
- Breasts: Fat transfer to the breasts is an ideal option for patients who would like a boost to the cleavage or have lost some volume in the top of the breasts but do not want to have breast implants. There are limitations to breast size change, and is generally for patients who want a small augmentation.
- Buttocks: Patients who are looking for a rounded, enhanced buttock area will benefit from fat transfer, or more commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
- Hands: Fat grafting to the tops of the hands is a long-lasting option to rejuvenate the look of the hands that may have lost volume and smoothness due to aging, weight loss, or genetics.

Your plastic surgeon will give you an honest assessment and let you know if you are a good candidate for fat transfer surgery, and how best to use the procedure to achieve what you are looking for and if that would include fat transfer (fat grafting) surgery or other non-surgical alternatives.
