Rhytidectomy in Montreal

What does a facelift do?

Everyone will experience signs of aging over time, such as sagging, fine lines, wrinkles and loose skin. Many patients will choose some non-surgical options to slow the process or help temporarily, but a facelift is a long-lasting option with beautiful rejuvenating results. A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that will lift the sagging skin on the face and neck, and tighten the muscles underneath to restore a youthful appearance. Scars will be hidden around the ears and hairline, with natural looking results usually resulting in an appearance of 10 or more years younger.

Are you a candidate for a facelift?

Who is a good candidate for facelift surgery?

A facelift can help reverse a multitude of the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. If you have some of the concerns below, you may be a candidate for a facelift surgery.

  • Sagging skin, muscles and fat
  • Vertical neck bands
  • Jowls
  • Deep wrinkles on the face
  • Marionette lines (vertical lines running from the mouth to the chin)
  • Appearance of double chin from sagging skin
  • Nasolabial folds (laugh lines-  running from the nose to the mouth)

Your plastic surgeon will give you an honest assessment and let you know if you are a good candidate for a facelift, but in general you should be in good overall health with no medical conditions that can impair healing, must be a nonsmoker or willing to quit smoking, and have realistic expectations.

How to maximize your facelift results

A facelift is the basis for revitalization of youthfulness to the face, but there are numerous procedures that can be combined with a facelift to enhance your results.

Some procedures that are commonly performed with a facelift:

  • Brow lift
  • Fat transfer (fat grafting)
  • Neck lift
  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
  • Liposuction

Your plastic surgeon will provide tailor-made recommendations to you depending on the extent of the signs of aging, age, lifestyle and desired results.

Depending on your age, lifestyle and aesthetic goals, you may benefit from non-surgical options as a less permanent option. Facelift results are best when patients are over 40.

Possible risks

Know the risks of facelift surgery

Like any other surgery, there are of course risks associated with choosing to have a facelift, such as risks associated with anesthesia, bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, fluid accumulation (hematoma), changes in skin sensation and pain. Being aware of the possible risks will help you to make an informed decision to have your surgery. Your plastic surgeon will discuss all risks in detail with you during your consultation and before surgery.

Additional facelift risks can include:

      • Facial asymmetry
      • Nerve injury
      • Sutures becoming visible through the skin, requiring removal
      • Hair loss along incision sites (temporary or permanent)
      • Revision surgery if results are unsatisfactory

Very good surgeon. I had a mommy makeover (abdominoplasty and breast lift with implant) by Dr. Arash and I am very satisfied. He's a magician. I can't stop staring at my chest.
