Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty in Montreal
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin and fat from the eyelids (upper and/or lower) to reverse the signs of ageing around the eyes. Double eyelid surgery is another blepharoplasty technique with the goal of creating a crease in the eyelid in the absence of one.

Who can benefit from eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty was in the #2 spot as most performed plastic surgery procedure for 2020, as it is one of the most effective surgeries to fight signs of aging. Patients who elect to have eyelid surgery can expect to see improvement in the following areas.

Upper EyelidLower Eyelids
  • Droopy, sagging eyelid skin
  • Loss of eyelid crease due to excessive wrinkles and drooping skin (which can make it difficult to apply makeup)
  • Problems with field of vision due to drooping upper eyelids
  • Asian eyelid surgery, or double eyelid surgery is an option for patients of any age to create an upper eyelid crease where none are present. Typically with hooded eyelids.
  • Elimination of bags under eyes
  • Elimination of hollows under the eyes
  • Improvement in dark circles
  • Tightening of under eye wrinkles

Your plastic surgeon will provide tailor-made recommendations to you depending on the extent of the signs of aging, age, lifestyle and desired results.

Possible risks

Know the risks of eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

Like any other surgery, there are of course risks associated with choosing to have eyelid surgery, such as risks associated with anesthesia, swelling, bruising, bleeding from incision lines, infection, poor wound healing, changes in skin sensation and persistent pain.

Being aware of the possible risks will help you to make an informed decision to have your surgery. Your plastic surgeon will discuss all risks in detail with you during your consultation and before surgery.

Additional eyelid surgery risks can include:

  • Dryness of the eyes
  • Difficulty closing the eyes
  • Outward rolling of the lower lid
  • Light sensitivity
  • Temporary or possible permanent changes to vision and in rare cases, blindness

Blepharoplasty candidates

Are you a candidate for eyelid surgery?

Your plastic surgeon will give you an honest assessment and let you know if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery, but in general you should be in good overall health with no medical conditions that can impair healing, must be a nonsmoker or willing to quit smoking, must not have any serious eye conditions and have realistic expectations.

Depending on where the problem areas are, you can elect to have upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both at one time. This will be discussed during your consultation.

A great surgeon who listens. You quickly gain confidence in his frankness and expertise. The results obtained are beyond my expectations and I am definitely grateful. A crush for Dr. Arash, for Nashrine, for Marie-Ève and Noémie the nurses who accompanied my process and for the nice ladies at the reception.

Very good surgeon. I had a mommy makeover (abdominoplasty and breast lift with implant) by Dr. Arash and I am very satisfied. He's a magician. I can't stop staring at my chest.
